BOSTON —Three students at the University Of Massachusetts/Dartmouth have been charged with being accessories after the fact in connection with the deadly Boston Marathon bombings.

The three men arrested in connection with the attacks were charged in federal court with conspiring to obstruct justice and making false statements, according to criminal complaints filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Robel Phillipos, 19, of Cambridge, accused of lying repeatedly to federal prosecutors about the case, was charged in federal court on Wednesday with making false statements.

After a hearing that lasted just minutes, Phillipos waived bail. His next court appearance was set for May 6.

Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, both 19 and originally from Kazakhstan, were charged with conspiring to obstruct justice. At the time of their arrests, the men were living in New Bedford.

Both men waived bail. They are scheduled to return to court on May 14.

If convicted, Phillipos faces  a maximum of eight years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev each face five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
